Understand an affordability measure
An affordability index uses a defined household income, home price, financing assumption and reporting period. It is not a determination that an individual buyer can or cannot qualify.
Build a property-specific budget
Include principal, interest, property taxes, insurance, association dues and other recurring costs. Insurance availability, assessments and local property conditions can materially affect the decision.
Treat anticipated relief as uncertain
This article originated in August 2025. Unsourced quarterly percentages and promises of later relief have been removed. Compare current local information and financing terms rather than relying on an old forecast.
